Take the spirit of East Timor with you by buying some woven tais cloth at Tais Market. Traditionally hand-made by women, the material is internationally-famous. The market also offers bags, jewelry, and other handicrafts. Use the colorful tais for a variety of purposes like a carpet, a table cloth, or simply as a decoration. While roaming the market, look out for the women making the material in their shops. See Tais Market and all Dili has to offer by arranging your trip with our Dili route planner.

I recommend making your way right to the back for the best Tais. You will know the quality Tais as they are a heavier, more rustic weave with more natural colours. Ask the stall owner to tell you...

Wonderful small market where local stitched fabrics are made and sold. Local owners, surrounded by children are friendly, welcoming and not harassing, just need to negotiate the prices, which are lower than the ones found in hotels and airport. Not to be missed

An amazing place where you find all sorts of unique East Timorese products. Fabulous weavings by women mostly. If you're in Dili and you miss this, you've missed East Timor. I have pieces that I bought there 18 year ago.
