Quito's famous Baroque church, Fundacion Iglesia de la Compania dazzles visitors with its golden interior. Dripping with extravagance, the church is adorned head to toe in gold leaf decorations, perhaps explaining why it took 160 years to build. Equally impressive-- though not nearly as golden--the church's symmetrical facade gives visitors a taste of what's to come inside. Have a look at the indigenous Ecuadorian faces depicted subtly on the pillars. • Beautiful church, completely adorned by gold. Hired a local guide who was very knowledgeable about history and architecture.

  • This amazing church is widely regarded as the finest church in Quito and one of the most ornate religious buildings in Ecuador. The large central nave is decorated almost completely with gold leaf, gilded plaster, and wooden carvings, above which are two green and gold domes in the vaulted ceiling.
  • This is a very beautiful church and a definitive must see place in you visit Quito. We enjoyed the tour with an English speaking guide that was enthusiastic and informative. The views from the roof where they let you take photos are marvellous. After the tour we still walked around for a long time because it's such a beautiful place.
  • It is as magnificent as previous reviews have stated and a must see in Quito. Once you pay the admission fee, tours in Spanish and English are free. I requested a tour in English and had a wonderful tour with a young guide named Alex. I was the only person on the tour! Alex explained not only the aspects, art and symbolism inside the Church, but also the historical events and contexts surrounding them. His English was excellent.
  • After seeing churches, cathedrals, and monuments worldwide I get a little bit cynical, but this is worth it. It's $2.50 to get in plus another $3 to get the tour up to the roof, which you absolutely must do.
  • You pay $5 just to enter. Half the church is cut off from access with pews stacked as barricades. A security guard prowls menacingly looking for people taking innocent photographs. The staff is vaguely hostile and unwelcoming. Overall a very non-spiritual experience. But it is exactly what one should expect from Jesuits - they are not humble men of God.
