Wander the somber halls of Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, a set of underground chambers that house the tombs of ancient Romans, some dating back to the 2nd century. You'll need to descend a long spiral staircase to enter the catacombs featuring a distinct blend of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian styles of architecture and decor, with statues and inscriptions portraying deities from all three cultures. Great place but avoid the restaurant across from the gate.. He will double charge you. The Catacomve itself was the most interning thing I seen in Egypt.. Better than the pyramids

One of the 7 wonders of the world, worth seeing. Multiple levels present with private and public burials. Roman- Egyptian architecture. Lowest level was under water for 300 years but now it's navigable as water is pumped out incessantly. Unique place to visit!

One of my best experiences whilst visiting Alexandria! We have a great tour guide. He’s an old lad usually by the entrance - clad in a suit and tie. Unfortunate he doesn’t use mobile gadgets else I would have shared his number. Now, back to the Catacombs review - these tombs are underground; carved into stone. From above you can never tell there are tombs underneath! Absolutely amazing. It’s a blend of Egyptian, Roman and Greek beliefs!

Unless you come with a tour guide, and depending on the guide, you might not get much learnings from the site. There aren’t many plaques with information. What is interesting is that this was a Roman temple built for a rich family, and it was build mixing ancient Egyptian with Roman. It is interesting. On the contrary to catacombs in Europe, it hasn’t any bones, just a crate with horse bones.

It is a historical place, where various classes of mummies were preserved and found. The place is just maintained satisfactorily, however, is just another burial site of ancient egyptians. Unless you are an archeologist and have a thing for such sites, do visit but for normal tourists it may not look too fancy. The guides are good and will explain a lot about it but overall there are other places more historically important in Alexandria to visit.

It was my first time to visit this place. It's a nice place but can't be reached easily. I hope they install street signs to make people capable of reaching it easily. It makes me remember tomb raider game - the last revelation part in 1999. There was a stage of this game in catacombs.
