Soak up the atmosphere and pick out a souvenir at Khan Al-Khalili, a historic souk built in the 14th century. With a maze-like layout and artfully arranged shop fronts and stalls, the market caters largely to international tourists these days. Some areas, such as the gold and spice-selling districts, remain seemingly unchanged, with countless merchants all located close to one another, creating a striking visual effect and lending itself well to photography. • We had the best time here. Bought all the goodies. A great stop for any souvenir shopping you may want to do.. comparable to a flea market in the US. Only better. Such a neat experience.
  • When I think about Cairo I think about this place. It is old, authentic, raw, and captivating. The architecture and the old streets are lovely. However, this experience is not for everyone....at times I felt claustrophobic and it's constantly crowded. The streets are very narrow. And you need someone local or a guide to help you navigate the streets otherwise you can find yourself lost in some strange ally. Generally it's safe and there is a metal detector and police at the entrance. Motorcycles roam around near pedestrians which is dangerous..(for this reason I would not recommend coming here with kids) There are lots of shops for souvenirs but I have to say that they inflated their prices so much that even after an 80 percent haggling experience they were still overpriced. I regretted buying from there as I found better bargains at the airport. It's a little bit frustrating to have to turn down a lot of the street vendors, but if you are polite and nice with them they will let you be... I love watching people there and chatting with shopkeepers. I can't wait to go back again.
  • I really liked this Bazaar, a lot of really good stuff, expect to pay a lot more as a tourist and they basically won't negotiate unless you have an Egyptian national doing your bidding like we did. The constant hounding of sellers was the least here compared to any other place we went which was a VERY welcome relief!
  • Such an experience especially if you visiting from the west! So crowded packed with people and any sort of vehicles that is so chaotic but at the same time so beautiful with all the shops selling anything you can imagine! Butchers selling meat, fruits herbs and vegetables and everything you could imagine! Definitely an experience and definitely a must visit!!!
  • Beautiful souk with lots of souvenirs and antique shops lined next to each other. Very clean and well maintained. Prices are a bit high so prepare yourself for some bargaining. A lot of the shops still have the old Mamluki architecture which gives this place a historical kick. Highly recommended.
