Create an itinerary including Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids
A World Heritage Site, Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids once provided the final resting place for the pharaohs and nobles of Memphis. The ensemble of pyramids and mastabas (tombs made of mud bricks) covers a huge area of the desert--this site was used as a burial ground for around 3,000 years. The main structures include the Pyramid of Djoser, constructed by the royal architect Imhotep--it's possibly the oldest intact stone building in the world. • Hire a private guide or tour group and spend a day here. We made the mistake of doing Giza in the morning and, by the time we go to Saqqara, were too wiped out to really enjoy it.

  • We were there very early in the morning when it was less busy and were able to go inside the other smaller pyramids. Impressive artwork and. You can combine with a visit to Giza but this one is the oldest Pyramid.
  • Out of all the places visited in a recent trip to Egypt, the Pyramid of Djoser was by far the most pleasant site! What makes it pleasant? 1. First thing I noticed is the energy of the site itself... calming and more relaxing (then most other sites). Not sure if we were lucky, but there weren't a TON of people here. It was so calming and relaxing place, people sat close or on the base of Pyramid meditating. Myself, personally, I felt those who built this Pyramid did it out of love and for a purpose (not being enslaved), knowing for well the purpose of the afterlife, knowing they personally were doing something so very profound for such a king they truly loved and admired. 2. You don't have (a ton of) the vendors following you trying to sell you something. 3. It's much more quite! Such amazing beautiful history in Egypt...
  • This is less touristy but same vibe. This was the first location where I realized all the pictures on the wall used to be in color. It must have been quite a sight to see everything in color. Also observe how light enters these structures and hits the door.
  • It was a lovely experience and I recommend it to everyone ❤ PROS 👍 ■ Nice experience inside the pyramid. ■ Many things to watch there ■ Place wasn't crowded though i visited it at the weekend. CONS 👎 ■ The place is large that it requires a map to set the right destination
  • If you’re in Egypt and going to Cairo you must visit Saqqara. It’s about 30min drive from the pyramids in Giza. This is home to the nation's oldest pyramid call the Step Pyramid of Djoser. You can visit both pyramids inside which was an incredible experience! I can still feel my legs two days after the walk! This place is not as busy with tourists as Giza and the tickets are cheaper too. Definitely recommended.
