  • It's definitely worth visiting. German archaeologists were working on it for some time now, it should be in a better shape than when I visited the place.

  • The ancient city in the Siwa Oasis was built using clay and palm trees. The houses stood for centuries until early 1920s when unusually strong rains hit the place. Houses collapsed within few days. People built new, more modern ones, however, the old ruins attract visitors ever since. If you wish to experience the atmosphere of old days, stay at a hotel built in one of the ruined houses and travel back in time - you can easily imagine the 21st century is far in future. It is a positive experience, do not worry, feeling history gives you a new energy when you return home. Good tip: Remember to pack repellents and a mosquito net, especially if you come in winter (January) for the oasis mosquitoes not to disturb your sleep.
