Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum / Estonian Open Air Museum
Immerse yourself in the past at Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum / Estonian Open Air Museum, a life-size showcase of centuries of Estonian village life, architecture, and culture. Home to about 80 buildings dating as far back as 1699, the village offers the chance to see the structures in a traditional rural setting. Visit the museum and explore the 72 hectares (178 acres) of forested coastal landscape divided into different themed zones, each dedicated to showcasing one of the country's prominent regions and its architectural styles. You'll notice how large a role fishing and farming played in country life, as evidenced by the presence of mills and fish storehouses. Try your hand at cooking, embroidery, or a number of other handicrafts while you're at the museum; those with little ones will find plenty of kid-friendly activities and demonstrations as well. Afterward, kick back with some traditional Estonian cooking at the village tavern. One of the best experiences I’ve had in Tallinn and the best museum I’ve been in. Must see if you’re in Tallinn. Go for the full day, explore the insides of the buildings as well.

We arrived at 14:30-15:00 and all the buildings were already closed. No signs or texts to give any context. Not worth the 12 euro entrance fee at all. Skip this museum for now. Has potential, but...

Beautiful area! Went there for midsummer night and the whole museum was turned into a small familial festival! The area I big enough to feel the nature and accessible by walk easily. Amazing to see how these old houses are build from 1900, really cute explained how they lived with nice stories and I could feel life there. People must be really small in these times. 😄😉 The night was well organised, delicious food, nice music and a big bonfire the whole night! Thank you for this amazing experience! 💚🔥🇪🇪

We visited the museum during our summer vacation. We rented bikes for an affordable price and we discovered the beautiful old city by bike. Multiple houses can be visited inside as well. There is a restaurant inside the park with traditional food. We had chicken with vegetables and apple strudel with vanila ice cream. It was very delicious! The cashier from the museum did not know much English but we managed to understand each other and she was nice and polite.

What a wonderful winter experience. The Open Air Museum is full of incredible history of Estonian's way of life and how families lived in the early days. There's so much to see, and a lot of interactive displays in the summer and winter, that you will want to return again and again.

Located a short bus ride from the centre of town, this museum is a must visit in my opinion. The entrance fee is phenomenally cheap for the quality and variety of what's on show. I paid ten euros for a single adult ticket and spent around 4 hours exploring the living exhibits and scenery. The tavern was another highlight. Very cosy in the winter and the food was good and fairly priced. Very worthy of your time.

I was absolutely blown away by the experience. The museum is a living history village that showcases the traditional way of life in Estonia from the 18th to the 20th century. As I walked through the village, I felt like I was transported back in time. The authentic buildings, costumed staff, and traditional crafts and activities really brought the past to life. I loved exploring the different houses and learning about the different trades and crafts that were practiced in each one. The staff were also incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and they were happy to answer any questions I had. They really brought the history of the village to life and made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend the Estonian Open Air Museum. It's a truly unique and immersive experience that really gives you a sense of what life was like in Estonia in the past. It's a must-see for anyone interested in history or cultural traditions.
