Kiek in de Kok and Bastion Passages Museum
Home to a vast network of military tunnels and a historical cannon tower, Kiek in de Kok and Bastion Passages Museum documents the secret history of defending Tallinn over the centuries. Constructed by the Swedes during the 17th and 18th centuries to connect their series of underground bunkers, the hundreds of tunnels were rediscovered throughout the 20th century. Visit the museum and learn more about the tunnels' usage, construction, and what spurred their creation. You'll get in-depth information on Tallinn's development and involvement in military conflicts. Stop by the fortified tower section, standing 38 m (124.5 ft) tall and protected by 4 m (13 ft) thick walls. Defenders protected by the tower were able to fire cannons, catapults, and other projectiles. Although the tower does not require an organized tour, the tunnels themselves do: they can only be accessed with advance reservations. Our Tallinn trip itinerary planner makes visiting Kiek in de Kok and Bastion Passages Museum and other Tallinn attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Excellent! Huge amount to see both outside on the walls and in the towers, and 320m of tunnels. Give it a couple of hours, insightful, informative, and great views.

I wouldn’t say this attraction was particularly moving or a ‘wow’ experience, but it is still certainly worth a visit. We paid €5 for entry to the tunnels, and there are lots of visual exhibitions...

If you are in Tallinn, this is a must visit. When entering the area to pay you have 3 options. Visit the Tower Visit the underground tunnels that are under the city wall Or do both I recommend you do both! The walk through the under ground tunnel takes you through the history of how the tunnel and walls were used over the centuries. There are signs and displays in multiple languages that make it an interesting walk. It takes some time, I would say 45 minutes or so, and it’s a good amount of walking but it’s cool and self paced. You then go into the tower which is set up as a museum as you walk up the stairs. Be aware, the stairs are steep! But you can rest at each level. Make sure to look out the port holes in the tower and get some magnificent views of the city. This is a great preserved piece of history.

Very cool museum, especially underground bastion passageways! Buy full exhibition ticket to visit passages and towers. In towers there are museums. Maiden tower has nice cafes with super view, but they were closed while our visit. NB. Some steps in towers are hard to step and you should be in shape for visit. In passages there are 10-11 degrees all the year

I visited on our first time in Tallinn. The museum has many sections so it’s best to explore and be curious. It contains different subject from the history, medieval lifestyles, animals, Estonian history ect. I recommend keeping your eyes peeled for an amazing view. I really felt the bastion lacking information and continuity as many passage jump in timeline. While it’s a great museum with much to see, it sometimes was difficult to learn about objects or the history as there were signs for some artifact however still an enjoyable visit.

The must place to visit in Tallinn! We had the opportunity to visit 3 towers and explore the history of the city, including its artists and theosophical background! The entrance fee is 8 euros for the towers and 12 if you wish to visit the bastion tunnels as well, which I totally recommend! The tunnels are 300m long with various exhibits and special lighting which makes the whole experience even more memorable!

This is like a must have to people who visit Tallinn, definitely recommend to make time to visit this place and deep into history. It is also super stylish, artsy, very well made. We were offered to take blankets in case we don’t have warm clothes, bacause down there is pretty cold, so make sure you dress up well. Nice attitude and affordable prices.
