  • Great bookstore and stationary shop. The bookstore is situated in Kirjatalo building located in the Kluuvi district of Helsinki. The house was designed by Alvar Aalto and was completed in 1969.

  • Like the Finlandia Hall also this work by Alvar Aalto is under renovation, though luckily operating normally inside. The famous protruding angular windows in the ceiling don't give as much light as...

  • Besides being big, it is also old. The store was established already in 1893. In 1930, the Stockmann department store acquired the Academic Bookstore. In 1969, the store was moved to a new Book...

  • At the Academic Bookstore in the city centre you can discover a comprehensive supply of books, stationery and art supplies in an unhurried atmosphere. There is a quiet corner with comfortable armchairs in the second floor. It was nice to lean back and relax here for a moment while my toddler was napping.
  • Amazing bookstore! Two-floors of a wide selection. You can find books in different languages. There is a cafe in the second floor and several places to sit a check the books.
  • Wonderful collection of art materials from books to brushes and charcoal pencils. Nice sitting area that faces stockmann and also a nice cafe
  • Great selection of books but the store is not great for disabled people. If you need to use the elevator and would like to shop on both floors, you need to go to the cashier and pay for your items, then leave the shop, go in the elevator, and enter the shop again and pay for your items separately. At busy times this adds a lot of extra time. I would understand if there was only one elevator, but there is an elevator within the store, but it is locked for staff. I asked a member of staff to unlock the elevator, and she said she couldn’t, and I need to use the outside elevator instead, and pay for the items “so you don’t steal them”.
  • A fabulous bookstore in Helsinki. When our tour guide said it was her favourite shop in the city I had to pay it a visit. A beautifully laid out shop with a great selection of books in English. The staff were super helpful and spoke fluent English. If anyone tells you the Finns are not friendly this bookshop will prove otherwise. I bought three gorgeous books and went back twice. A bookworms heaven.
