Create an itinerary including Helsinki Cathedral
A product of Russian expansionism in the region, Helsinki Cathedral was built by architect Carl Ludvig Engel as the pinnacle of the city's Senate Square. The cathedral was constructed between 1830 and 1852 in the neoclassical style as a tribute to Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. After Finland gained independence in 1917, it became a Finnish Evangelical Lutheran cathedral. Take in views of the structure's distinctive green domes and white pillars and walk through the church to appreciate its Greek cross layout. Over 350,000 tourists visit this cathedral every year. • We’ve only visited the Cathedral from outside. This white coloured structure forms an iconic view from the yard in front of her. She is beautiful. If you’re visiting Helsinki for very short time even for a transit, this place is a place for “must visit”.
  • We have been here during wintertime and enjoyed the impressive building from the outside. There are big stairs in front of the building you need to climb to get to the church. Inside it was a bit disappointing since the walls are mostly just plane white. Even if it says the entry fee is five euros it is free since the fee is voluntary. We spent there about ten minutes in total.
  • Beautiful Cathedral in the heart of Helsinki. Everything looks so majestic and elegant from the outside making you wonder what there's inside and...inside there's nothing. Very austere like the protestant mindset
  • Helsinki Cathedral is the most famous building in Helsinki. It built in 1852, also known as the White Church. It is really beautiful. I will go there again in winter when it dress in snow.
  • Outside is beautiful, but inside is pretty basic. Anyways I will recommend to climb the steps and go around the building, there are nice views from it's every corner.
