One of the oldest parks in the city, Kaivopuisto features hiking trails and vast green lawns, as well as recreational complexes and cafes. Stretching across 45 hectares (111 acres), the park sits between the urban zone and the open sea. As you walk along its numerous paths, you'll encounter art in unexpected places. Some trees contain extremely detailed carved faces, while colorful wooden birds adorn tall poles. As you pause to sit on one of the numerous benches here, notice that each has poem engraved into the surface. A visit to Kaivopuisto represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Helsinki road trip planner to plot your vacation.

  • Great park to hang out on a nice day! Seems like a fair amount of locals come here so it didn’t feel too touristy which was nice. 25 min walk from the city center was definitely worth it but you can also take the tram pretty easily. Had some great viewpoints from the top of the pier and lots of space to hang out and picnic with some food 🤘🏼
  • Very beautiful scenery. My family and I went for a 12 mile walk and we walked through This amazing scenic place.
  • I had the immense lucky to live there for 4 months and this will always be my favorite spot in Helsinki
  • It's a beautiful park and its own district near the centre. There is a hill with stunning views towards the sea and the Kauppatori bay. The hill is quite windy, so prepare accordingly. Good for walks, picnics, and also sledge riding in the winter. Good connection to the centre by tram.
  • It was nice I have been here in Finland but I never see this nice place
