Create an itinerary including Chateau Royal d'Amboise
With sweeping panoramic views of the Loire valley, it's no wonder why Chateau Royal d'Amboise was a favorite royal residence of several successive kings. Balconies overlooking the valley create an air of grandeur. The tomb of Leonardo da Vinci resides in the Saint Hubert chapel, renowned as a masterpiece of extravagant Gothic architecture. An armored tank designed by Leonardo da Vinci sits on the grounds of the château.

The architecture quintessentially represents the French Renaissance with gardens and the Minimes and the Heurtault towers. The towers, which served as the royal residence, are available for you to explore, but you need prior permission. After the lavish royal pomp, with permission again, you can descend to the mysterious underground, a place few royals ever saw. • I really loved it. Pity the Da Vinci grave is closed! Cant wait to come back and see the chapel, it should be open next year.

  • This historic Castle, built in the late 15th century, became the favored royal residence in the Loire under Charles VIII. Charles is famous for accidentally killing himself by walking into a door...

  • My friend and I debated which Chateau in La Loire valley was the most beautiful and impressive; we still cannot decide! The setting and the grounds of the Chateau Royal d'Amboise was breathtaking...

  • Beautiful castle with gorgeous gardens. Stunning, breathtaking views. Right at the Loire. Slightly challenging with a pram - it is on top of a rock after all. Fun for kids, plenty of space to run around. Entrance fee ok.
  • Beautiful Chateau, visit it early or late to avoid people, it can take 2:30 min if you like to go read the details. Once you left the chateau turn to left and walk for 10 min then you reach Clos Luce. Amboise is a nice town to walk and have something to eat.
  • Very impressive and beautifully restored Loire castle. Untill 1130 it is possible to drive your car into the old city and park right next to the castle entrance. Spectacular river views from the castle tower. The rooms are nice, nothing special though. I found the visitor tablet not very useful, you might want to read up beforehand. No coffee / drinks in the castle. Bring some small change for the toilets.
  • Beautiful castle with nice views of the city. There is the tomb of Leonardo da Vinci in the chapel but you can't see it now because it's under restoration. Despite that you will take an hour to visit all the Castle and the garden. Recommended!
  • A beautiful chateau and definitely worth a visit. Quite a long walk to enter/exit but if you have mobility issues you can book ahead to get vehicular access I believe. Quite a confusing 'route' around the interior and not all areas would be accessible to all mobility levels. Beautiful rooms and furnishings. Spectacular views from the 'ramparts' across the valley and over the town. Stunning gardens. Recommend visiting. Plenty of restaurants, cafés and bars for refreshments in the town.
