  • After the big castle, the little church. It goes together The Marquis de Vauban chose: His body in Basoches, but his ❤️ in the pantheon. Have.
  • A plaque affixed to the wall of the chapel reminds us that in this place is the burial place of Marshal de Vauban. His heart, by order of the Emperor, was transported and placed in the monument erected in his memory, under the Dôme des Invalides in Paris.
  • Open and welcoming, it is a very interesting addition to a visit to the château. Sébastien le Prestre, Marquis de Vauban was born in 1633 in Saint-Léger de Foucherets, a small village located between Vézelay and Avallon, a town renamed Saint-Léger-Vauban by Napoleon III. Vauban acquired the Château de Bazoches thanks to a large endowment from Louis XIV, following the brilliant military victory of Maestricht in Holland. The village church houses the tomb of the great man. It is located in the St Sébastien chapel, built by Vauban, during his lifetime, to serve as a family vault. Profaned during the French Revolution, four people were buried there, Vauban, his wife, one of his daughters and a granddaughter. The original church was Romanesque, built in the 12th century. Burned down by the Protestants in 1569, it was rebuilt in the Gothic style in the 16th century. Three chapels were added to it in the 17th century. Listed by the M.H. in 1984, it has many pictorial decorations. Open and welcoming, it is a very interesting addition to a visit to the castle.
  • Tomb of Sébastien Le Prestre better known as the Marquis de Vauban
  • Visiting this place is a highlight in the history of France. Marshal de Vauban, who inherited this particle from the village of Champignolles, expressed a feeling of rest that will allow him to assume his future responsibilities.
