Aisne Marne American Cemetery is the commemorative site of the World War I battle from 1914-1918. A monument and a flagpole are at the center of the road leading you through the woods. The relief on the monument depicts an American icon called "Iron Mike," which was the work of Felix de Weldon who was the same sculptor of the iconic work at Iwo Jima. • Incredibly powerful place to visit for Marines. Be sure to drive around to the memorial marker and also walk to the Devil Dog fountain.
  • American cemetery of the battle of Belleau Wood site of US Marines battle in WW I
  • My great grandfather received a Purple Heart at Belleau Woods. He was in the 67th Company 5th Marine regiment and was trapped behind the German lines for 6 days after his platoon pushed too far past hill 142 towards Torcy and were surrounded. His tibia and fibula were fractured by German Maxim machine gun fire but he and 3 Marines continued fighting together. My grandfather said his dad slept with a Colt 1911 .45 under his pillow for the rest of his life. He lived to be 91 years old and lived a prosperous life in New Orleans, LA “lest we forget”
  • American cemetery with the hilltop of Belleau Wood in the background, site of US Marines battle in WW I Rode my bike past there from Paris to Epernay in September. Too bad our President didn’t honor the fallen that so bravely fought on these hallowed grounds.
  • Very moving, sad, but a must see monument, a tribute to the men and women who fought and gave their lives to liberate France and Europe,
