Create an itinerary including St. Andre Cathedral
St. Andre Cathedral, a French national monument, hosted the 1137 marriage of 13-year-old Eleanor of Aquitaine to the future King Louis VII. It is also a Roman Catholic church that serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Bordeaux-Bazas. The original cathedral was consecrated by Pope Urban II in 1096, though most of what visitors see today is from the 14th and 15th centuries. Of the original Romanesque edifice, only a wall in the nave remains. However, you can still view many historical treasures, including the Royal Gate from the early 13th century. A visit to St. Andre Cathedral represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Bordeaux trip itinerary planner to plot your vacation.

  • Big cathedral with huge square and open space around. Great architecture. Shops surround the square. Easily accessible. Tram stop exactly in front of Cathedral.

  • Lovely and spacious square. The cathedral is currently being restored and the large gilded statue has recently been placed on the spire. A lot of activity going around the plaza. Perfect spot for sunbathing and cultural attraction.
  • Amazing architecture. Although it would have been better if they provide like an audio guide or a brochure about the history of the place. Alot of infrastructure as still being restored/fixed but it looks great.
  • This is a lovely very large Cathedral that is a Bordeaux Landmark. Take your time to explore all of the historic section of this masterpiece. It was originated around the 11th Century and was the location of the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine to Louis VII of France. She of course became the mother of Richard the Lionhearted. The hundreds of years of history are reflected in the beauty of the stain glass, the architecture and the art.
  • It's part of the Unesco world heritage. Located near the Town Hall, this is the most beautiful religious monument in Bordeaux. Entrance is free, it's worth a visit.
  • Impressive cathedral with amazing stained glass windows. Offered relief from the hot weather! Lots of information about the organ which is also very impressive.
