Create an itinerary including Chateau des Milandes
In 1489, Chateau des Milandes was the main residence for the lords of Caumont. Today, it is best known as the former home of entertainer Josephine Baker, who restored this "Sleeping Beauty" castle in the late 1940s. Tour parts of the castle for a glimpse into Baker's intriguing life, walk through the bucolic gardens, or take in a Birds of Prey show that features some of the best fliers in the castle's falconry. • The chateau has an interesting earlier history and then has the more recent connection with the fascinating Josephine Baker. The current owners have amassed a great deal of material and information...

  • Great place to visit. Beautiful setting, water features, gardens and all the history make it memorable. Josephine Baker was some woman and well ahead of her time. It is a credit to the current owners....  more

  • This is a tremendously interesting tour especially considering the period in which Josephine Baker owned the chateau. The self-guided tour is 15 euro and a very effective mobile phone-style handset...

  • Wow…. This is an absolute must to visit if you are in the area. Stunning gardens, extremely informative tour of the chateau with an audio guide, amazing falconry display and some lovely exotic birds to see en route around the grounds. We had lunch outside on the terrace at the restaurant which was also excellent. Great value for money and a thoroughly great afternoon in the lovely sunshine.
  • What we loved about this castle is a perfect mix of medieval history and a most more recent story. The audio tour is very engaging, also for the (teenage) kids. The bird show was fun! All in all, well worth a visit. You’ll 3-4 hours including the bird show and audio tour.
  • Amazing, the story of Josephine Baker presents here in the Dordogne is both interesting and moving, such a sad ending to a beautiful life story. The chateau is greatly preserved and presented and get a 10/10 for the children interactive tour, which kept them interested and intrigued. Superb ground and great bird show.
  • Felt amazing even in a heat wave. The bird show was very professional (though the English elements were too brief). The gardens have plenty of interest for little ones. The house itself was well worth the visit and unusual for a chateaux in that it's all about it's recent history. Well worth it
  • The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The falconry show was superb. And learning about Josephine Baker was a revelation. We had a great afternoon here.
