The only medieval fortress located in the Loire Valley, Forteresse royale de Chinon is a strategic site where you can explore several restored forts within the castle walls. Built in the 10th century, several 21st century restorations let you immerse yourself in the military and civil history of the fortress with 3-D models, interactive displays, and 150 m (492 ft) of restored ramparts.

Guided tours in English are available for an additional charge, but general admission includes a complimentary informational brochure with a map in English. Maps guide you through the interior complete with two rooms devoted to 16th to 20th century artistic works honoring Joan of Arc.

Two lower rooms present illustrations and archaeological finds from the site's excavations. Come to admire the restored royal quarters, including a 15th-century house, then be struck by the bird-eye view from the top of the castle overlooking Vienne Valley. This castle suffers from centuries of neglect. 3/4ths of it is gone. But this poverty inspired them to open the dungeons and clock tower, places one normally cant see. We found that fascinating!

Good place to discover historical topics. They give you tablets to see everything from the past. You can find so many films captured in this palace like NARNIA, GAME OF THRONES, LE HOBBIT, HANGER GAMES DE GARY ROSS, you can see the view of the rivers and buildings and the bridges and the forest from the top top of the palace. Nice place to discover historical information from 1300 till 2022. I totally recommend it.

Beautiful views and lots of history. Definitely take the iPod History thingy. It's free and great fun. You get augmented reality versions of the rooms complete with costumed people, furnishings and sounds. There's also a treasure hunt.

A very nice place overlooking the ancient town. They have an histopad with really helps during the visit. But you have a lot stairs, towers and dungeons to climb up and down. So visit take 1-2 hours. Luckly there is a nice resting area in the middle.

Paid Entrance Fees of Euro 10.50 with access to using the smart tablet which has selection of different language. Highly recommended to visit and use the tablet for interactive as well as informative understanding of the history, the olden days work life as well as other background status.

Great place to visit, lovely view , and nice chairs in the grass to rest under the trees once you finish your tour. There is audio tablet you can get at the entrance, and small discount if you been to Azay-le-Ridaeu Chateau before and have the tickets.
