Create an itinerary including Chateau de Peyrepertuse
Chateau de Peyrepertuse is a ruined fortress and one of the five strategically placed Cathar Castles built along the border between France and Spain. Construction began in the 11th century and continued through the 13th century, taking advantage of a high, defensive crag of rock that overlooks the approach road. Look up at the castle from the road, and you'll find it difficult to distinguish the castle from the surrounding rock. It has been on the French Ministry of Culture's Monuments Historiques list since 1908. • Nice place. Beautiful views from the ruins of the medieval castle. Be ready for a 15 minutes hike over a narrow and rocky trail to get to the castle from the visiting center. In summer take water.
  • a lovely beginner hike which rewards you with beautiful views from the top! add to it the story-guide around your visit and the wonders of its history. one for the memories!
  • Great “Cathar” castle with phenomenal views of the surrounding countryside
  • Day trip from the village. It took us one hour to arrive to the impressive castle located on a vertiginous mountain top. The name 'citadelles du vertige' is well chosen.
  • Very impressive site on the mountain. Unfortunately not super safe to let kids run around…
