Create an itinerary including Abbaye de Lagrasse
Abbaye de Lagrasse, a Romanesque Benedictine abbey, dates back to the seventh century. The abbey was of tremendous religious and political importance in the 12th century and was fortified during the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. Look for the small cloister with carved columns depicting The Luxury. The upper gallery leads to the abbey chapel, where you can admire its highly decorated walls. The Romanesque church was constructed with a single nave ending in a presbytery with a transept and three apses, and an octagonal bell tower. During restoration efforts, builders discovered an ancient Romanesque portal with a marble sculpted arch. The monk's dormitory features an ogival vault with a timber framework. • The place is really beautiful. We can see how they are trying hard to preserve the place. If you happen to be there in summer you can actually dive in the river( not so deep) just below the abbaye so make sure to take your bathing suit. We will certainly come back to visit the private sector of the abbaye. The entrace fee is affordable.
  • Beautiful place to spend an afternoon visiting the abby and having a splash in the river, later having a meal or snack in the local restaurants and bars.
  • Very pretty spot. Market day is worth a visit and the Abbey itself is pretty. Café is ok and nicely shaded on a hot day, which It usually is!
  • Beautiful little town with a good selection of restaurants and cafe's. Wonder through single lane old cobble streets that have independent craft shops. Its great for children as the river that runs through the town has a designated swimming area with a life guard. Take goggles to explore the river bed and fish as the water is crystal clear.
  • Great spot enter that diverse a visit. No cars friendly, use the public parking lot and come with coins (credit card was broken)
