Create an itinerary including Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Laon
Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Laon is one of the most important examples of Northern France Gothic architecture of the 12th and 13th centuries. The building is in a cruciform shape and the choir terminates in a straight wall instead of in an apse. The cathedral has stained glass dating back to the 13th century and a chancel screen from the 18th century. Although the cathedral suffered some damage during the French Revolution and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, it escaped both World Wars unharmed. Our Laon route planner makes visiting Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Laon and other Laon attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • We visited the cathedral whilst walking around Laon old town. It's a quiet place for reflection and was lovely and cool whilst hot outside.

  • The cathedral is unbelievable. The ceiling height is off the charts high. Sun altars surround the main altar. Nice stained glass windows. Recommended.

  • Laon Cathedral is one of the most elaborate and best-preserved of the early French Gothic cathedrals. It is notable for the stylistic unity and consistency maintained over the different phases of its construction. Must visit 👍
  • Amazing gem in that part of France. It was first built in the 8th century, and then the new cathedral was built between 1155 and 1235. More parts of the building were added in the following centuries to be seen in the present form. It was cold inside on a January day, but on a rainy day one can enjoy so much being inside.
  • Amazing building, the architecture and stone work is incredible, to think it was completed over 700 years ago astounds me.
  • Great cathedral to have a wander around. Lots to see, had fun spotting all the animal waterspouts on the outside of the building! Could perhaps have done with some more info in English but it was fine. Definitely worth looking round - it’s amazing how these things were built back then!
  • One of the great cathedrals of France set in a superb medieval town. Beautiful! Also, free parking close to the cathedral.
