Camargue autrement safari 4x4, Le Grau-du-Roi

This was a very good tour, and if I understood French more than one word in twenty, I am sure it would have been even better. Our guide was friendly and helpful, so no fault to him. There are English language tours, but we had somehow chosen otherwise.

Visited from Alaska, NYC, Florida and Colorado w family of 13, 11 bikers and 2 in the keep. Our bike guide was from Normandy but had moved to Camargue after seeing the wild beauty of this place. Bikes were comfortable and in good working order, but the guide and scenery were what made this special. Birds everywhere of dozens of species, wild bulls and horses, interesting flora. It’s unlike anywhere else I’ve seen in France, and I’ve lived there for 5 years. And the guides enthusiasm and knowledge were evident at every stop. My only regret was having a lunch date as our guide seemed ready to turn the half day tour into a full day tour. Would 100% recommend.

If you hear the word "safari" and you see them driving those 4x4's, one could think that he would be taken off the roads, to places where ordinary cars are not able to come, to see the wildlife and the nicest spots of the Camargue. Well, that's not the case. The trip is 85% asphalt, 14% gravel and 1% off-road: at a meadow at a farm to watch bulls. The "safari" is not so much a safari as it is an agricultural tour. We saw horses: in a meadow, we saw bulls: in a meadow. We even saw some pinkish spots in the distance. This were the pelicans. If you don 't mind wildlife and nature, but like to know what farmers are growing, than this is great. The guide we had knew a lot and was enthousiastic, that was a great plus.
