Create an itinerary including Batterie Allemande de Longues-Sure-Mer
Located on the coast between the D-Day landing beaches Omaha and Gold, Batterie Allemande de Longues-Sure-Mer is the only battery where you can view original 150 mm (6 in) guns. In 1944, the Germans built the battery, which consisted of four navy guns, each protected by a large concrete casemate, a command post, shelters for personnel and ammunition, and several defensive machine-gun emplacements. The night before D-Day, the battery was heavily bombed. On D-Day, Allied forces landed on the beach. The next day, the Germans surrendered. From this strategic point on top of a cliff overlooking the channel, you'll have a terrific panoramic view of the landing beaches. • Decent car park with equal space for buses as cars (too many bus spaces in fact) so some folks parked on the road out. A new information centre here with an observation platform on the roof and more....  more

  • This place has a really impressive battery including cannons. You can walk behind the cannons and through the bunkers and het a glimpse of the view from there. If you follow the walking path, you'll find another big bunker which you can enter. This place has no toilet and is mostly suitable for wheelchairs, except the bunker farther down the walking path.
  • Good little site, free to enter, no real information, buy you can wonder fairly freely around four artillary bunkers and one (I assume) spotting/ranging bunker right on the cliff edge, all in pretty good nick. You can also see the Mulberry Harbour remains at Arromances beach. If you go to the Memorial at Caen there is a little model of a bunker that explains what all the little rooms were used for (mainly shell storage).
  • Very interesting to see history come to life. It is a thought provoking place. The trails are nice and I think the place seems pretty accessible.
  • Thankfully on the day these were taken, the lads didn't go head on. To hear the stories of how the encasement was obliterated. To vision how the attack had taken place and to whom had accomplished this feat. Definitely worth a visit. Haven't been here since I was a young lad. Glad to of come back.
  • Very nice place to visit, bunkers are in a very good condition, the best I have seen across the d day sites. Very good looking tourist information place, free toilets and parking as well. Overall nice experience with a very well preserved piece of history.
