Create an itinerary including Théâtre gallo-romain
Ten thousand Roman spectators once occupied the seats of Théâtre gallo-romain; now, the theater is a historian's playground. Walk on the stage and become Nero performing in front of his reluctant audience, or Cicero inspiring his people. Alternatively, sit in the stone aisles and imagine a spectacle of Roman gods from a citizen's view. In either case, you'll be awed by the lost glory of Rome. Using our online itinerary creator, Lyon attractions like Théâtre gallo-romain can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • You see two Roman theaters next to each other, which is unique. Excavation is very good so walking about is easy. The view from the terrace is the best.

  • I am always impressed by the architectural design with remarkable acoustic qualities of such Roman theatres. The setting, with the enhancement of sound and lights by modern technology, offers excellent experience and enjoyment. The downside is it is open air, so events could be affected by weather.
  • Great museum for adults and kids. The cost is low €4.5 per adult from memory. I had pre-booked audio guides in French and English for a group of 11 at no extra cost. The quality of the sound was good and the explanations very informative. The building itself is amazing, the museum very well organised over 5 floors, it has well signed stations to start playing your audio guide (a kid version is even made available), and there are many interactive stations to entertain and educative kids and adults.
  • An old roman theatre but still in a perfect shape. Visiting in the evening by metro, the weather was great. It is free of entry fees. You can stay as long as you want. But please keep you eyes out for the stairs as it is soo steep. Beware of falling down. Overall, It is a good place to chill out with your friends.
  • Beautiful Roman amphitheatre proving incredible views over Lyon and the surrounding area. Free to visit though a fee is required to go to the museum. Definitely worth taking the funicular railway to get there though as it'd be a steep walk!
  • Amazing place. Full of history of ancient Galia. A must in Lyon. Visit the museum design by the same architect as the UNESCO building in Paris.
