Maison du Souvenir, Chinon

Very sombre visit, but very much worth going

This place makes it possible to become aware of the absurdity that can lead to human madness and allows young generations to realize that this kind of behavior is useless. Watching the film in the preamble to the visit to the Maison du Souvenir allows us to recontextualize (although inaccurately as the Director specifies because it is about testimonies and personal feelings) the massacre. You are also offered to see several places on the territory of the municipality including the cemetery which contains a monument and the graves of the victims sometimes belonging to the same families.

"Loved" is not the correct term for this place. It is a place of memory, where a massacre took place on August 25, 1944. Less impressive than the village of Oradour-sur-Glane because the village of Maillé has been rebuilt but viewing the documentary / report has was particularly moving for me. The memorial is in the cemetery. The memorial house is located just at the entrance to the village. To see to discover and remember Maillé.

Moving. This house of remembrance is a must. The film is heartbreaking. Such a beautiful quiet village, ravaged by the horrors of war.

I belong with my husband to the German delegation which participates in the commemoration on August 25, the day of the massacre and the day of the liberation of Paris. The carnage committed by the SS in this village makes me deeply sad. What unimaginable brutalities! The museum is very well equipped and offers many educational tools.
