A modified 14th-century stronghold at the heart of the Rambouillet forest, Chateau of Rambouillet is a royal residence with beautiful interiors and exteriors. François I, the Count of Toulouse, the Duke of Penthièvre, Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, Napoleon I, and many others have visited. In 1883, the site then became the official residence of the presidents of the French Republic. Stop at the Queen's Dairy, a small sandstone building in the form of a Neoclassical temple. Look for the artificial cave with outer foliage, a marble sculpture of Julien, a nymph, and the goat Amalthée. In the English garden, visit the cottage built by the Duke of Penthièvre for the Princess de Lamballe. Its unusual decoration is made from shells, chips of marble, and mother of pearl. A small toilet cubicle with painted wooden paneling is adjacent to the great hall. Calm and beautiful place. Very less crowded. Must visit place for relaxation. You can get tandem, cycle, electric golf car. Good to bring kids

Lovely castle in a lovely town...A fairy tale .. Sadly too few rooms to visit ..make sure to go in the morning to be able to visit the upstairs rooms..

Very interesting place, with great explanations on the first and second empires, French presidents customs and much more, including end of the French divine monarchy. The place specifically built by Louis XIV for his wife (Marie-Antoinette) called "La laiterie de la Reine" (the milk farm of the Queen) is also worth visiting, included with the entrance ticket, but quite far (1km walk from the main castle). The garden is magnificent. Overall a place that is tightly linked to the power in France for the past 300 years.

An interesting place to visit - the gardens are quite enjoyable. The tour was cheap, only 7 euros, but didn't include much (maybe there will be more after renovations). Recommend checking out the gardens first, and the tour if you have time.

Beautiful location. We walked through the grounds and enjoyed the well maintained features. It's so nice that it's right near the town centre. We will return once the château is open so we can look around inside.
