A beautiful port town in southeastern France, Citadelle de Saint-Tropez - Musee d'histoire maritime is a former military base, where the main source of income was fishing. This fishing village was liberated from the Second World War early in the twentieth century, following which it became an international resort by the sea. Artists from the French New Wave started rushing into this magnificent town as a result of its rich history and spectacular view. It later became a resort for the European and American jet set and a goal for tourists in search of a little Provençal authenticity and an occasional celebrity sighting. • Really recommend going here. The views you get are already worth 4 euro you pay. The museum is also nice. Gives you an insight about the history from long ago to more recent events in the area. I do feel like they are trying to cover a lot of topics, which makes it all a bit of an inconsistent story to follow as you walk around. But that could also be because the signs are both French and English but the most of the sound clips are not.
  • It’s a beautiful museum with a lot of interesting items related to ships and sailing. The museum is located in the fortress with nice views at the sea and city.
  • Below the citadel are among the most impressive panoramic views.
  • We almost didn't make the climb. To be honest, we were in search of a restroom. The museum was all we could find at the time. SO GLAD WE DID THIS. The museum is excellent. It offers a complete history of the area and how the structure came to be. It also houses many interesting maritime artifacts and sailing ship-building exhibits. The structure is beautifully preserved and has complete access for visitors. The views from the Citadel are extraordinary. Across the bay, you can see the distant Alps. And the town of Saint-Tropez lays out below you. There's an unencumbered 360º view of the area that's just breathtaking. And . . . there are restrooms
  • Very nice place to visit, conveniently located and wonderful view to the town below. Try to get there early in the morning, to get the free parking, which is filling up really quick. From there, you can walk up to the museum, and also walk to the old town to shop and eat. You can spend the whole day there, since everything is walking distance. I did not know the museum has peacocks.
