Taste a little sparkle--sparkling wine, that is--in a 15th-century limestone quarry at Caves Louis de Grenelle. The tuffeau limestone mined by prisoners of war provided the material that built many châteaux and houses in the Loire Valley. However, once the houses were built and the prisoners released, it was time to celebrate with a little bubbly; and that’s exactly what Louis de Grenelle and his family did. The caves are now used to age the precious grape essence in perfect atmospheric conditions. See bottles lining the chalky walls, waiting for their time to shine. The winery is still owned and managed by the family of Louis de Grenelle, who follow time-honored methods of fermentation established in 1859 by Louis himself. • Very nice tour and excellent wines!! Too bad that they wouldn’t sell me wine since I wanted to buy +6 bottles (I should buy them over Internet), in any case it is a very good experience and I totally recommend it!!
  • Great tour of the beautiful cellars with a nice tasting afterwards. A bit short tasting with few wines, would have liked to taste more wines.
  • Helpful friendly very pleasant staff have used many times highly recommend.
  • The tour down into the cave where the Sparkling Wine is produced and stored was truly amazing! I had no idea that making sparkling wine was such a long process! We saw thousands of bottles stacked along the walls in various stages of the process to to become sparkling wine.
  • This cellar door was a short walk from the town center and had a stylish interior. They only stock bubbly/sparkling, and were kind enough to let us sample most things before we left with a couple of bottles. The staff spoke english with and us and were very knowledgable and helpful.
