A masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, Basilique Saint-Sernin has undergone significant renovations over the past 40 years to make it a worthy pilgrimage site on the route of St. James. One of its main attractions is a contemporary bust sculpture of John Paul II. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the basilica features a bell tower, 12th-century mural paintings, a crypt, a treasure trove, and the can’t-miss marble altar dating back to 1096 CE, when it was directly consecrated by Pope Urban II. If you're lucky, you'll hear a talented organist play the circa 1888 grand Cavaillé-Coll organ. Definitely one of the many reasons to visit the old town. There is a lot to see here, so make sure you have enough time to see how Basilique Saint-Sernin's architecture amazing is.

I was just passing by from this place on cycle in evening and man I had to stop for few minutes to feel the beauty of this attractive place what my eyes were looking at. Please please take a walk near this church in evening/night you will be amazed with less crowded beauty 🥰
-
Extraordinary cathedral with impressive crypt. It should be on every must-visit list for Toulouse. Entrance is free and even at a second visit we saw many new interesting things.
-
beautiful structure, so unique in color and style compared to other cathedrals in france which are mostly gothic. really worth a visit!
-
Catholic Basilica in the heart of Toulouse. Free to enter. Has a small crypt area you can access. As an active church it does feel a bit like any other large church, but still worth visiting.
