The Galerie des Batailles (French: [galʁi de bataj]; English: "Gallery of Battles") is a gallery occupying the first floor of the Aile du Midi of the Palace of Versailles, joining onto the grand and petit appartement de la reine. 120 m (390 ft) long and 13 m (43 ft) wide, it is an epigone of the grand gallery of the Louvre and was intended to glorify French military history from the Battle of Tolbiac (traditionally dated 496) to the Battle of Wagram (5–6 July 1809).

  • This room was amazing with all the paintings stone busts, and marble work. It was cool to see how the paint aims depicted the battles and the people involved in them. Again there was so much...

  • After the first three pictures I went to the exit. Nothing artistic or imressive in the paintings. It's only about Napoleons victories.

  • It is a spacious hallway which depicts the battles in French history by artistic drawings that are hung on the wall. The outside passage consists of sculptures which are related to French history. It is yet another section not to be missed at the Versailles Palace.
  • One of the most impressive things about this room is not just the gigantic size of the paintings, but that they all have almost the same height, making it appear well-fitted on the walls. It was designed by Louise-Philippe and depicts 15 centuries of battles from the entire French history. So much history.
  • Amazing galleries of battles! If each picture had a description of how the battle went, that would be perfect! Beautiful :)
  • Amazing gallery with huge portraits that seems to commemorate certain events. The area was very spacious and the lighting was just right for looking at the paintings. There were a few seats but it was mostly standing room. It wasn't as busy as the main palace area. We just happened upon the room while following the way out.
  • Th is is a really cool art gallery that shows some of the history of the famous French battles. We notice it the first time we visit Versailles in 2012, but this was an awesome and a must see gallery!!
