Considered a Notable Garden of France by the French Ministry of Culture, Les Jardins de Marqueyssac has 150,000 boxwood trees carved in groups of rounded shapes, such as flocks of sheep. Stroll through the romantic 19th-century garden along 5 km (3 mi) of walks, and view rustic structures, water descending from the belvedere and ending in a cascade, and much more. The garden is part of the 17th-century Château de Marqueyssac, built on cliffs overlooking the Dordogne Valley and continually updated until the second half of the 20th century when it was rarely occupied. Beginning in 1996, owner Kleber Rossillon restored the gardens and opened them to the public. I went on Thursday the 11th of August and on Thursday nights in August they have candlelit gardens and live music spotted around the grounds. As you walk, and climb along netting (optional), the place will start to light up and liven with music - around 9pm. There are multiple viewing platforms to take pictures and take in the immense valleys and cliffs. As well as that, there are various places to buy beverages, or ice creams, to clench your thirst - outside the main restaurant/cafe there sits a very talented pianist. Best to go on a clear day to take in the views.

Great am walk! Beautiful gardens. Took us about 1 hour and 20 minutes in the garden. Be prepared there are hills to walk up and down. Bring water with you and have fun!

One of the most beautiful garden I've visited. Well kept, has stunning views over the valley. The only down side would be, that not all paths are clearly indicated once we head deeper into the garden. Tips: For the elderly please bring along a foldable seat to pause during the walks and comfortable walking shoes

Absolutely stunning. What an amazing gardens, so much to see and do and such a lot to keep the children’s interest. We also had a lovely lunch sitting outside at the Tea Rooms. A really hidden gem, I can’t recommend it enough.

Listed as a National Historical Monument, surrounding a stone-tiled château from the early 19th Century, the romantic and picturesque Marqueyssac Gardens offer over 6km of pathways surrounded by over 150 000 hand-pruned boxwoods, with viewpoints, rockeries and stone cabins. Situated on a rocky spur, the viewpoint offers one of the most impressive panoramic views of the valley and it’s many châteaux.Such à Lovely place.
