Moorea Dark Waters, Temae

You will always remember your night snorkeling in the Moorea lagoon. Joaquin is an excellent guide who communicates quickly and clearly. We met at the arranged location right at sunset, with plenty of time for an orientation talk and an illustrated tour of the dangerous stuff underwater that we needed to avoid touching. On the night we snorkeled, the half-moon was out and the wind was calm in the lagoon. We saw creatures hiding and others not trying to hide at all. At one point, we turned off all lights and just floated in the moonlight, taking in the spectacle the way the creatures down there see it every night. This is more than just a snorkeling tour, it is a visit to a weird world you cannot see any other way. It may be the best thing you do during your whole time in Moorea. Joaquin will make sure you feel safe and comfortable the whole time you're exploring. My highest recommendation.

What an amazing experience we had tonight, an absolute must do and one of the highlights of my time in moorea. Joaquin is an incredible tour guide as he takes you through the waters at night which feels like a completely different world from the day. Would highly recommend this to anyone with an interest in marine life as Joaquin is full of knowledge and is all about protecting what is there. A fantastic and unique experience that allows you to see marine life at night. You will encounter creatures that can only be seen at night! Swimming at night in the lagoon of Moorea is an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for everyone. Joaquin is a great professional that besides offering you the experience itself, he will share his knowledge and tell you interesting things about the marine creatures that you can find in the water.

This was quite an adventure. We decided to go here and Joaquin responded quickly and with good detail to make sure we have everything we need before going out tonight. Once we arrived, our guide Mai (spelling?) found us and started briefing us about what to expect and some safety tips. The tour lasted about 1.5 hours, swimming with fins in the moonlit skies. You do have flashlights but on occasion the moonlight will show more elusive creatures. After the tour, we walked back to our parking spot for about ten minutes and our guide offered us a light snack. A very thoughtful gesture after quite a workout (it wasn’t too bad, but still😅) We spotted an octopus, puffer fish and that one spiny fish that you don’t want to touch. There was also sea cucumbers, urchins and some bioluminescent plankton.

Joaquin was fabulous. It was so exciting seeing under the ocean at night. We could almost touch the sea turtle. Highly recommend!
