What a great, spectacular mountain! Don’t forget to climb the tower that is on top of the hill! ( it even features an elevator) and is completely free of charge!! 360^ panoramic view from its’ top. Monoculars can be used for only 50 cents. The hike up there is quite steep ( coming from Stauffenberg). It is however a great walking path right through the forest and once up there, you’re rewarded with a spectacular view! You can also reach the mountain via car or cable car!

The Best

A cable operated train pulls you up the Merkur mountain overlooking Baden-Baden-Baden. At the summit you have a wonderful 360o Panorama of The Rhine valley across to Alsace, France down to Strasbourg, further to the Voges mountains and you can see a huge chunk of the Black Forest below. Climb the tower or take the elevator then relax at the restaurant and take the trail and walk down to the city.

Fantastic view with paragliders setting off and restaurant food is lovely and brilliant value. A must see if you are visiting Baden-Baden.
