Head to Bebelplatz in the central district to view the site of the infamous May 10, 1933, Nazi book burnings, when more than 20,000 books were burned by the nationalist German Student Association. Bordered by the state opera, buildings of Humboldt University, and St. Hedwig's Cathedral (the first Catholic church to be built in post-Reformation Prussia), the plaza now features a memorial to help remember not only the loss incurred during the book burning, but all the devastation that was carried out by the same hands. To fully experience the memorial, visit after dark. Make your Berlin itinerary with Klarna Trips to find out what to see and where to go.

  • I’ll admit, I’ve never been to Bebelplatz before in my months of studying abroad here in Berlin, however during the holiday season it’s 100% worth coming to!!! The Bebelplatz market has lot of wonderful shops that sell ornaments, bags, and other handmade goods. Also I got a hot chocolate and was able to keep the cup which is a really neat souvenir! Since mine is a big cup I think I may use it for ice cream, pens, or smoothies. Anyway if you buy the gluvine (glow wine) you can keep a mug that you can use for coffee and such later. Love this market and definitely think it’s worth going to!!
  • I think this is the first time I witness a Christmas market in this area i like it , it was amazing and well organized, plenty of Food and drinks. Liked the vibes , totally recommended if you visit Berlin.
  • Such an amazing place, with beautiful architecture. Well connected area, you can easily get there by bus or train. It is practically the Centre of the city. There are many other amazing monuments within walking distance. A must visit area.
  • Gendarmenmarkt Christmas market is held here due to construction at Gendarmenmarkt. It’s free entry Mon-Fri 12-2pm but other times it’s 1€ entry definitely worth 1€ entry for sure. The most Christmas-y Christmas market in Berlin I’ve encountered so far
  • One of the best Christmas market in Berlin!! Good food, gluewine , hot chocolate with cream yummy 😋 and great vibes overall.. 1euro entry fees per person.
