  • This area is just wonderful, worth to walk around, sit somewhere on the traditional sitting banks. On some days you are allowed to climb the tower to enjoy an excellent view.
  • Amazing place, castle you won't forget visiting.
  • In some ways the building is the best feature. The size of the exterior belies the small exhibition space inside. It is one hall containing Gothic and Romanesque pieces. There are tapestries, altar pieces, paintings and other smaller objects. It would take about half an hour to see them all. Some of the the Ivory carvings are quite good. In addition there is also the original lion from the castle square outside in the collection. While it forms part of the Herzog Anton Ulrich museum, it doesn't seem to offer a combination ticket to see both museums.
  • if you love medieval, you'll love thid
  • Dankwarderode Castle on the Burgplatz ("castle square") in Brunswick is a Saxon lowland castle. It was the residence of the Brunswick dukes for centuries and, today, is part of the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum. Dankwarderode Castle was built between c. 1160 and 1175 as the Pfalz of Duke Henry the Lion on an island in the river Oker. Next to the castle, construction of Brunswick Cathedral began in 1173. The castle lost its military significance as a defensive structure early. Visit: 1. Brunswick Lion, original on display in the museum. 2. Arm reliquary of Saint Blaise on display in the museum.
