Follow the journey of the 7 million Europeans who left their homeland via the port of Bremerhaven and headed for the New World at Deutsches Auswandererhaus, where you'll experience the process through interactive exhibits. When you enter, you are given an electronic boarding pass, each with the personal story of an individual who either emigrated or found a new home in Germany. Listen to the evolving story you've been assigned to find out what kind of life your person ended up living. Visit the 1950s-style Roxy Cinema to watch short films about immigration in Germany and European emigration to the United States and Argentina. You can even search for your own ancestors using the museum's research facilities. The onsite restaurant blends culinary traditions of the Old and New World. Its large outdoor terrace features views of the harbor. Plan your Deutsches Auswandererhaus visit and explore what else you can see and do in Bremerhaven using our Bremerhaven trip planner.

The experience was interesting and I had no idea many Germans immigrated back to Germany after the WW2. It was disappointing as they advertise you can find out more about those who immigrated but...

Wow! My family emigrated to the USA from Germany so it was very interesting to learn about the whole history and process. I thought it would be boring but the museum is set up in a way that is really interesting. Many rooms make you feel like you are experiencing everything yourself. We didn't even get to see everything before they closed. Highly recommended, especially for a trip with kids/schools!

The tour is fantastic. You really get a sense of how it would feel departing into the unknown. The family research center is full of helpful and knowledgeable staff. Thanks for an educational and awesome time!

See a bit of what folks braved to settle other parts of the world. Appreciate the honesty on history including the parts we wish were different. Worthwhile couple of hours!

You were given a tour of the emigration process from leaving the docks thru the arrival into the US. You got an impression of what it was like to leave your home, family & life for an unknown. You were shown the vast differences in comfort & amenities of the classes on board as well as the difficulties they encountered upon arrival. The family research center at the end is very nicely set up with helpful staff. I very much enjoyed the experience.
