Both a municipal park and a botanical garden, Botanical Gardens Flora, designed by renowned Prussian gardener Peter Joseph Lenné in 1864, contains more than 10,000 different plant species. Close to the left Rhine banks in the city's north, this 11.5 hectare (28 acre) garden includes The Flora, which occupies the southern part of the park and features a waterfall and a flower garden with a central fountain. More exotic plants, such as orchids, cocoa plants, and succulents can be found in the large greenhouse. The northern botanical garden is categorized according to plant type. In the summer, try to time your visit with the annual Zoo and Flora Summer Night, which offers a music program and a nocturnal visit to the zoo. A substantial area of the gardens are being improved with new glasshouses. No obvious work was being undertaken to progress this worthy project when we visited on Friday early afternoon.

We enjoyed a few hours strolling these incredible gardens. One of the best in the world in my opinion. They are adding a large greenhouse that I'd love to go back and see some day.

Really good place to spend some time walking and enjoying the view of the garden. A palace like building situates at the center of the garden which was closed during my visit. The entry to the garten is free. Safe place for kids to walk and play around there. Recommended to visit in summer time when all the flowers are bloomed.

A place worth visiting on your trip to Cologne. A paradise in the city with free parking right next door (although it is a bit small) or on nearby streets. you also have fairly clean toilets and at least two different exits for the botanical, the main entrance of course is impressive! In the building inside the botanical there is a cafeteria where you can enjoy your coffee.

Very beautiful garden. Highly recommend to visit if you are in Köln. The garden is free and well organized. You can have a relaxing walk inside. It’s not too hot in summer neither because there are trees along with the paths.

The Cologne Botanical Garden is a beautiful relaxing garden even in February when we visited. There are various rooms to the gardens and there is a lake. The signage around the garden was very good. We saw many red squirrels in the grounds. We saw signs for toilets at the back of the exhibition hall but didn't test if they were open. The nearest underground station is the Zoo Flora station. The quickest way to walk to the garden is through the Zoo entrance. There are maps of the garden in a box on the left hand side as you enter the garden. Giant new botanical glass houses are under construction in the grounds.

Really lovely shady place to visit in the summer. Many types of trees and shrubs. I imagine it's beautiful when the camelias are in bloom. Lovely water features and red squirrels to admire. Would have given 5 stars but the large tropical house was closed due to rebuilding.
