Pay a visit to your favorite gentle giants in northern Europe's largest elephant park at Koelner Zoo. Originally a 19th-century wildlife preserve, the zoo has grown to feature more than 7,000 animals of 700-plus species. Over 20 hectares (49 acres) feature a variety of environments, such as an open-air rainforest with free-roaming birds and reptiles. Purchase a combined ticket to gain entrance to the adjoining aquarium. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Cologne holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Koelner Zoo and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Without question, this is certainly one of the best zoos I have ever been to. The animals have big habitats and lots of space, with the ability to disappear from public view if they feel like it. This zoo is home to so many animals, and I was impressed to see that they even harbor a rare breed like the snow leopard. They offer multiple opportunities to stop for food and drinks, from small food stands selling fries and icecream to a restaurant offering multiple lunch options, cold as well as hot drinks, and dessert. Benches are scattered all throughout the zoo, meaning if you want to sit down and just admire the animals or simply take a break, you always can. As I implied at the beginning, this zoo is rather huge. Therefore I would advise you to plan accordingly for the entire day. There is just too much to see, and you simply can’t cover all of it in two hours. My stay lasted for about six hours. Also, please note that the bird show is closed during winter season. To summarize this review, I had a great day here and I absolutely loved it. If you are contemplating on visiting this zoo, I can only highly recommend it.

One of the best zoos we have been to. The admission fee was reasonable and under the bridge, right across the street from the entrance, is a bunch of parking that was only 5 euro. We enjoyed the sea lion show, we were amazed at how well they could catch frisbees and balance balls. The food inside the zoo was also reasonably priced. The zoo got a little crowded, but that is to be expected on a Saturday.

Nice place to spend 3-4 hours, all animals are kept well. You should note that in holiday period working hours end early. The 23 euro ticket includes both zoo and aquarium admittance.
-
Nice zoo with huge spaces for the animals. Especially the indoor elephant housing is impressively large. For kids it ticks all the boxes. And easily to walk around or use the rental boulder car so you can pull the smaller kids around. Entrance fee a bit on the high side.

Very nice zoo in the middle of the city! The areas for the animals are quite big and well maintained. We can easily spend a few hours looking at animals from all over the world.
