Create an itinerary including Saint Gereon's Basilica
Visit Saint Gereon's Basilica to experience an 11th-century chapel that is one of only 12 Romanesque churches in Cologne. Take in the architectural features of the church as you look up at the dome, study the intricate floor mosaic of David and Goliath, or inspect the remains of the Roman walls and medieval murals. The ancient granite column, called the Blood Column, features a Latin inscription embedded in the wall above. Don't miss the crypt, where you'll find Roman tombstones in the walls and a floor mosaic with the signs of the zodiac. The church is closed to visitors during Sunday Mass at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Add Saint Gereon's Basilica and other attractions to your Cologne trip itinerary using our Cologne trip maker website.

  • Having visited many of Colognes churches, this one was one of the best to see. Not really observable on three of its sides, you will need to cross the street.
