A Frankfurt native founded one of Germany's premier art collections, Stadel Museum, in 1815. Its 600 paintings, 600 sculptures, and more than 100,000 prints and sketches represent nearly 700 years of art. You'll find a variety of styles, schools, and techniques. Look for works by Botticelli, Van Eyck, Rembrandt, and other famous artists. Art history buffs may reach nirvana in the museum's library, which contains more than 100,000 books from different eras. The gift shop sells an astounding 6,000 prints and books. The onsite cafe offers city skyline views. Using our world travel planner, Frankfurt attractions like Stadel Museum can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Wonderful museum but staff apparently have never heard of Vermeer! I had the most bizarre experience at the Städel in mid-January... Vermeer's "The Geographer" is part of the wonderful collection...

Had a great time visiting the Städel Museum. Went originally for the Guido Reni exhibition and I must say it was splendid. Also took a tour of the rest of the museum with its "regular" exhibitions...

If you're an art enthusiast and love artworks from the high renaissance era, then this place is for you. At the basement, it's a vast space for contemporary art. You can stay there the whole day and enjoy all the paintings. It's a pretty relaxing place. You won't get bored going around. 👌👌👌

I have absolutely no talent in Art or know how to appreciate it but visited Stadel Museum as it was supposed to house works from the very best artists. I wandered around the building and was thoroughly impressed with the gorgeous building and also the large variety of beautiful works (of different categories) kept in pristine condition! Just amazing….

One of the best museums we ever visited, particularly because of the well written explanations provided next to the paintings. These were really special compared to other museums and provided valuable information to understand the painting, the story behind it and the background of the painter. Additionally, there's a free audioguide app (covering some of the most important works) with additional detail.

Good museum, good price for entry. Paid 10 euros and got into both sides of the museum. Overall had a good time here, but please install some AC into the building so it's more comfortable because it was extremely muggy inside the art section. Other than that, a good place to checkout while visiting Frankfurt.

Amazing experience. The museum isn't big, nor do they have many paintings from the front pages of textbooks (like the National Gallery, for example), but it's very intimate because of that, and it doesn't take half a day to visit an exhibition thoroughly. A huge plus for the culture of the staff. The security guard waited until I finished taking video before telling me that this was not allowed. However, he said it in such a nice way that I put the camera away without regret. I would recommend anyone visiting Frankfurt. If you don't have much time, it's possible to visit the exhibition in 1 hour.
