Create an itinerary including St. Thomas Church
St. Thomas Church is most famous for being the resting place of composer Johann Sebastian Bach. It's also where he worked as a choir director. Reformer Martin Luther preached here on Pentecost Sunday in 1539. Today, it is a Lutheran church. In the sanctuary, study the portraits of superintendents of Leipzig. The oldest dates back to 1614. Note the stained-glass windows. One is a portrait of Bach, and another is Felix Mendelssohn. Outside the church, look for the statue of Bach. • I absolutely enjoyed the melodious music , the peace and quiet… perfect for visiting in the evening. It’s opened till 6 and the orchestra started around 5:15 pm . The inside of the church also has a memorial for St. Bach . Must visit for the music when in Leipzig
  • Where Bach is buried. I also attended an organ concert on Saturday. Need to buy tickets online in advance although there was tickets sold there too.i am not sure the concert played music of Bach but it's good to enjoy the music in this setting.
  • The history that this church holds is enough for a visit ! The architecture and the little museum inside is more than I expected from a church ! Knowing that’s the church “Bach” himself worked for 27 years and me being in the same place so many years after gave me the chills ! Magnificent church ! I would love to join a Sunday prayer.
  • Quite large church from outside. Could not make it inside due to the service. But enjoyed learning that Bach's museum and statue is nearby. There are concerts conducted in the Church. The square behind the church is decorated with Christmas lights.
  • Great church definitely worse a visit if you in Leipzig. So much history there and so a beautiful interior.
