  • Read Faust and the two statues on both side of the street will make more sense. The whole Auerbach Keller street area is inside with shops and a passage way. There is actually a tour of the Keller.....  more

  • The Mädler-Passage is beautiful gallery completed in 1914 with numerous commercial activities and the statues of Faust and Mephisto.
  • The bronze statues "Faust and Mephisto" in the Mädler-Passage are worth seeing. You are right at the exit to the Auerbachskeller not far from the old town hall. From here you can easily reach the whole city center with its sights on foot. The connection to public transport is also great. Conclusion: A must for every visit to Leipzig.
  • These two sculptures stand in front of Auerbach's cellar and refer to the text in Goethe's Faust and the episode in Auerbach's cellar. A visit to the cellar is part of a visit to Leipzig, I think. Reservation is recommended!
  • The statues are impressive. They represent the first moment in which Mephistopheles takes Faust on his travels. They mark the entrance to the Auerbach Keller restaurant, which is the second oldest in Leipzig and mentioned in Goethe's work.
  • Landmarks of the city of Leipzig and the Mädlerpassage. Dominant scenic ensemble of figures at the entrance to "Auerbachs Keller" on both sides. The bronze statues "Faust and Mephisto" form the entrance to the historical restaurant "Auerbachs Keller" in the Mädlerpassage with the group of figures "Three Students" standing opposite them. They were created by the Art Nouveau sculptor Mathieu Molitor on behalf of the builder of the Mädlerpassage, the coffee shop owner, Anton Mädler. The sculptural ensemble represents a sequence of the "Auerbachs-Keller-Scene" cast in bronze from J.W. Goethe's great literary work, the drama "Faust I". The "Auerbachs Keller" is named as an authentic place in the work through this scene and has thus become world famous. J.W. In his youth, Goethe visited this place very often during his three-year stay in Leipzig, and it was here that he was inspired to write his main work. Just read the scene again in "Faust I".
