Create an itinerary including Gruene Zitadelle
Starkly contrasting the Stalinist buildings in this previously East German city, Gruene Zitadelle was designed by famed architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Built in 2005, this pink and gold building that incorporate flowers and trees is already one of Magdeburg's most recognizable buildings. It features more than 55 residential flats, as well as office space and several other facilities. Take a guided tour for a look into Hundertwasser's creative process and to visit select parts of the interior, as well as the sunny interior courtyard. • A very lovely place to visit. I’d definitely recommend the tour since it takes you around the place all the way to the top for one of the best views. Sadly the tour is only in German but our guide was sweet enough to translate some of the things in English. You’ll be walking and climbing lot of stairs, so keep that in mind.
  • Very interesting building. Shares, colours and everything made me thinking it’s like Gaudi in Barcelona, but it’s not. It’s different and more user-friendly I believe. There is a lot of cafes, restaurants on ground level. It’s really green and friendly, I could live there for a while :) probably the best thing to see in Magdeburg!
  • Quick visit on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon. Nice Café at the base of the building and an eclectic range of boutique shops.
  • Extra-ordinary structure. The shapes, colors are outstanding. I think it's unique and eco-friendly. This non-linear, naturally-curved building was created by an Austrian designer. The ground floor has a variety of cafes and eateries. That's certainly the finest thing to see in Magdeburg!
  • Different architecture 🏯, colourful and eco-friendly structure. Love the ambiance, visit and enjoy the beauty
