  • Indepth coverage of study of artwork in Christianity. The life and resurrection of Jesus Christ recorded in the paintings, sculptures and other art forms symbolically influenced spreaded around particular geographic region. It could be good source for study how death ritual transition from pre Christianity to Christianity might have evolved through Egyptian practices of mumification.
  • Nice
  • Fantastic collection of icons of the highest level, exhibited in a professional, museum-like manner with very good text and explanations. Very hospitable welcome by the crew. Highly recommended for lovers of religious art, painting and the unknown.
  • Initially, I accompanied my wife there who paints icons herself. It did not take me 10 seconds to be seduced by the finesse of execution of the works presented. Breathtaking precision. All painted without a microscope of course. The city center where the museum is located is also very pretty and friendly. There is a covered car park 200-300m away.
  • I can imagine that here in Recklinghausen is one of the most important and extensive icon collections in Western Europe! The museum is well structured and very interesting, you have the opportunity to see the icons up close, the icons hang freely on the walls, which is very interesting, you have the opportunity to really explore every brushstroke of the artwork, I hope from wholeheartedly that this leap of faith will not be exploited at some point. Much is taught about the Eastern Church and its differences, e.g. to the Roman Catholic Church. I was most impressed by the stories about the icons and the saints depicted on them, since these are also different and are presented differently than those known from western churches, e.g. B. the dog-headed Christophorus, who is said to have been a cannibal.
