Create an itinerary including Cave Of Zeus
According to legend, Cave Of Zeus is one of two possible locations where Zeus, Greek god of sky and thunder, was born. High up on Mount Dicte, the system of caves have a single entrance, which you can reach via a long trek to the top or driving the winding roads up. Inside, admire the large stalactites and stalagmites that have formed over hundreds of years. The antechamber contains the crumbled foundations of an altar and evidence of offerings that were burnt at the altar and destined for the gods. Explore the five chambers, especially the small chamber behind a lake where Zeus was supposedly born. Cave Of Zeus is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , online itinerary creator Edition.

  • We were hesitant about going up Mt Ida for a cave. And really, unless you are really into Greek Mythology, there isn't much to get excited about. But the view is spectacular. Quiet, scenic and a perfect afternoon. It made it well worth the drive. Take the road slow and stay on your lane and there wont be any problems. It is a good paved road up to a parking area (beside the half constructed hotel) and then a 15 minute hike up. If you can't hike, you can walk the gravel road, but it will take longer.
  • Beatiful view and interesting cave. Could't enter because of ice in front of the enterance. Tjek your GPS when you are drivning down the mountain though, we should drive to Zaros and went on a 9 km small and very scary roadtrip.
  • The road to get at this cave is fantastic when you come from the south. It’s really off-road but amazing views. The cave itself is not that phenomenal but interesting enough to come over. The site is an old archeological site but no activity anymore. You can see the top of the mountain Psiloritis. Take a sweater with you. It’s quite chilly.
  • The cave is supposed to be where Zeus grew up, but I don't think this destination is worth visiting unless you are close to this place. You have to drive more than an hour 40 km per hour up a steep mountain road, the entrance is free, but there is nothing much to see there, just a cave with steps down, some excavations and that's it. If I had knew this before I drove there , I would have chosen to visit the canyon. Do not recommend going there, for the most part just a waste of time.
  • Went there 5pm and nobody was around. Was able to drive all the way to the gate. Side gate at the entrance was open so we kind of slipped in. Alot of birds on the ceiling and a little bit spooky place all alone.
