A village in the heart of Athens, Anafiotika sits below the acropolis complex. Famous for steep streets lined with whitewashed houses, here you can enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Established in the 19th century by workers migrating from Anafi, the area was upturned and damaged during archaeological research in the 1950s. Today the compact neighborhood has less than 50 houses. As you explore, admire the giant earthenware pots filled with bougainvillea. Browse the handmade souvenirs in the narrow alleys and mingle with the locals at a cafe. • A beautiful residential neighbourhood. So do keep the noise down, but the views and little alleys are beautiful. Basically just go up when in Plaka and you will find it.

  • While this is for the most part, decaying buildings. Howe er it is part of Athens. However, it is also the home of numerous interesting restaurants, all with good food.
