  • The Monastery is part of Greece History and the war for independence started from here. The small museum is very nice and the whole area of the monastery is nice for walk.

  • It is hard to believe that in this peaceful and quiet place the seeds of the Greek War of Independence were sown about 200 years ago. There, in 18.3.1821, the local rebels raised the flag of the Greek Revolution War and for this reason this impressive monastery of Agia Lavra, has such a great importance in the history of Greece. The monastery is open to the public and it is located in the heart of the mountains, 4 km west of Kalavryta. It has a small beautiful museum inside and the whole site is very inspiring, and strongly recommended! Don't miss also the Mega Spilaio Monastery located 10km north-east to Kalavryta!
  • Sacred place. To an extend it feels like Meteora and Athos yet something was architecturally off for my "antennae", something's not entirely original, I guess too much reconstruction with modern materials made the shapes too perfect to be ancient and there's no patina from centuries past. It's a milestone for the Greek independence war.
  • A simple monastery and place of workshop, it saw some of the fiercest fighting during the Greek war of Independence in 19th century and the Second World War. It is a a sombre place with historical significance, where a rag tag group of resistance fighters launched the fight that later lead to the foundation of Modern Greece. The nearby town of Kalyvryta is 5 minutes away and worth a stop.
  • Great monastery with very important historical value. They still keep the banner under which the Greek rebels swore their oath against the Ottoman empire by the Guidance of Palaion Patron Germanos.
  • The Agia Lavra monastery was very peaceful and serene. The monks were very welcoming and hospitable. The monastery had a very calm and relaxing atmosphere.
