  • We visited this evening. Google maps sends you to someone's back garden. Beautiful place. Full of admiration for Crete for giving this wonderful memorial for peace. The invaders did atrocious things to local people in the island but they chose peace rather than more hate. Very moving.
  • Interesting, well provided history bits at the beginning. Scenic views. Lovely cats. Places to think about what happened in the past.
  • I have heard many stories about The Battle of Crete. The battle being the first for many things in the war. It was the first occasion where Fallscyimjäger (German paratroops) were used en masse, the first mainly airborne invasion in military history, the first time the Allies made significant use of intelligence from decrypted German messages from the Enigma machine, and the first time German troops encountered mass resistance from a civilian population. This war memorial is just off the road and there is a slight incline to walk. At the bottom there is several boards with information on in several languages, donation box, WC and a café. Once at the top it is very moving and the style of a typical German War Memorial. The grounds people have really done their job with place. The grass is green and cut, the stones are clean the trees have been cut. The view looking across out to sea is beautiful and the memorial is in a great location.
  • A monument for the german soldiers that died trying to invade Crete. It is located on the side of the hill overlooking the bay and Maleme. It is worth visiting not only for the story behind it (plenty of information at the entrance) but also for the feeling you get from seeing the graves of all these young soldiers that died fighting for what they thought was right. Too bad there is no similar monument for all the Cretan people that were killed during the invasion and the following occupation.
  • Peaceful place. You should visit the German War Cemetery, which lies in the direction of Kissamos of the old road. You may feel sad when you see all tombs, with young men. A sad time in our history. The view is amazing throughout the Chania coast. There are many stairs and good toilet conditions. On hot days, I recommend that you bring water.
