Malia Palace Archaeological Site
Explore Malia Palace Archaeological Site to see what's left of the palace built here several thousand years ago. The palace was constructed in 1900 BCE but was destroyed 200 hundred years later. The ruins you'll see are from the rebuilt palace, which replaced the former in 1700 BC. Begin at the small museum, where you will see a model of the palace as it would have looked originally. At the north end of the palace, visit the necropolis where the famous gold bee pendant--now on display in a museum in Heraklion--was uncovered. Learn about the Minoans relationship with their Gods by examining the round table in the central court, where they placed seeds as offerings to the deities. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Malia holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Malia Palace Archaeological Site and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

It's one of Minoan sites. The site is quite large. It's only ruins, the signage is very limited. It should take about 1.5 hours to see it.

I liked this place a lot since the remaining walls are higher than usually and we'll preserved. You can see some parts of the palace from a higher perspective which makes it easier to see how the houses looked like back then. Sad that the site lacked information. There is apparently a building I the entrance explaining a bit more about the palace and its surroundings but I probably missed it (not sure if it wasn't closed due to covid)

April visit for this archaeological place.. no need to buy in advance at this time of the year your ticket. Maybe later when much more many tourists will come.. maybe you can do it if there is an option. Very interesting ancient ruins

Really nice place where you can escape from the monotony of beach life and just a small walk from Malia center. I would have liked more inscriptions with descriptions (some small stories that could bring to life the city) or the possibility of a tour where someone could tell you the significance of what you are looking at

Well preserved, 3500-4000 year old ancient ruins. Nice place to visit, close to the sea - anyone can drop by on the way to the beach (it doesn't take too much time). 😊

Malia is one of the top Minoan sites in Crete and the place where the Bee Broach was discovered. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. You must also remember that these sites are the oldest in Europe. Almost 4,000 years!
