Established to preserve and present Greek maritime history, Aegean Maritime Museum occupies a 19th-century building in the center of Mykonos Town. Ancient navigational instruments, model ships, and antique maps tell the story of the country's nautical past, transporting visitors to a time when Greek sailors explored and conquered distant corners of the world. Outside, a small museum garden displays larger artifacts, including reproductions of marble gravestones of sailors lost at sea. A large lighthouse also stands here, reminding visitors of the importance such structures held long before the invention of satellite navigation systems. • We stopped here on an excursion with Holland America. This is a nice museum and certainly worth a stop but our guide took way too long here (45 minutes) and went on and on about nothing.

  • Small museum, but big enough to get a good view about some history. Not to much time consuming for a tourist.
  • I must be biased as I have a personal interest in boat building and technology and how that reflects the culture in which they are designed. Well worth at least 20 mins of your time to absorb it all.
  • If you like the sea and sailing, this place is for you. There is an amazing collection of vessels from the very first rafts till the most efficient ships. You'll be able to see the Athenian Trireme, the Kyrenia ship, the Roman cargo sailing ships and a Byzantine dromon, just to mention a few. So much more is there waiting for you to explore.
  • Nice contrast, peaceful place with interesting exhibits from all the shops, my 14yo son was interested in the coins.... Beautiful cat in the rear garden!
  • Kind of small museum, but quite interesting
