A beautiful little museum with a wealth of information about everyday life. The cooking implements are fascinating and there is a very great variety of ceramic pots, including sarcophagi. An absolute must. We visited late one day and went back for more the next. Fascinating and the staff was friendly and helpful.

The Sitia Archaeological Museum displays Minoan artifacts from various excavations in Lassithi, the eastern part of Crete. In the last part, there are artifacts from the Greek and Roman periods. Although the museum is small, it is simply and beautifully planned. In particular, objects from the daily lives of the Minoans are presented to visitors with informative notes. It's just that the repetition of some objects can be a bit boring when visit. Palaikastro Kouros, the most important work of the museum, whose pieces were found and combined on different dates, will welcome you at the point where you start your tour. Dating to the 15th century BC, this statue is the only known cult image of the Minoan civilization and reveals the high point of Minoan art. The entrance fee to the museum is normally 3€. The lady who greeted us said it was free as we were young and didn't take any money. He also let us leave our bags at the entrance. We thank you.

One of the few museums in the east side of Crete with the amazing Kouros as the main attraction and findings from everyday life of the Minoans. Even for that is worth a visit.

A small but great museum. Not only fans of the Minoens but also children will enjoy lingering through the four rooms full of huge pithoi and well-preserved larnax. The section showing the Minoen cooking methods is quite interesting. And you will learn all about the mysterious ivory kouros found in Roussolakkos !

Such a small and very interesting treasure! A good way to explore the era of the Minoan Times Crête, with a lot of descriptions of the daily life of the people and their minds. The statue at the entrance is a marvel of art, even today in my opinion. I was quite astonished of the work that has been done to bring this museum to life. Very good job to the archaeological team, please make sure the artifacts are all lit up and the descriptions - in a few of the displays - corrected (minoan - mycenean and so on..)
